Sustainability Slavic Village Development Goes Green!

Slavic Village Development is taking steps to become a more sustainable organization. The office has already implemented a recycling program and the use of compact fluorescent light bulbs. We have also adopted informal day-to-day procedures to reduce our carbon footprint: turning off lights regularly, shutting down our computers nightly, and using a programmable thermostat. Some employess bike to work and many support locally grown food.

Check out the Green Communities Criteria Checklist for a list of steps to become more sustainable.

If you already have green business practices, let us know! We may feature you in the next Village Voice to spread the word. Contact Jonathan at (216) 429-1182 ext. 111.

Brick House

Brick House Adds Full Menu, Patio

After a successful first year of operation, brothers Chuck and Paul Colletti are preparing plans to expand The Brick House bar located at 5504 Harvard Avenue.

Opened in the spring of 2007 after a thorough renovation of the building interior, the Brick House offers a casual and comfortable tavern experience with restored brick walls, new lighting, and a friendly staff. The establishment offers a wide array of imported and micro-brewery selections.

By late summer, the owners expect work to be completed on the outdoor bar and patio. They said the addition of outdoor heaters should make the patio comfortable for patrons well into the autumn.
They are also working on a new menu with plans to start serving appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and lunch and dinner entrees by the end of the summer. Also under consideration is a Sunday brunch menu to be offered during the football season.

The Brick House is open from noon to 2:30 a.m. seven days a week. Once the kitchen opens, the hours will likely be expanded. For more information, call The Brick House at (216) 206-0501.

ALDI Adds to Slavic Village Shopping Mix

ALDI has opened a new grocery store in the Broadway Shoppes located at 6711 Broadway Avenue.

The discount grocery chain, which has 900 stores in 28 states, places its emphasis on providing value to customers.

The company’s philosophy is to locate in smaller stores and offer a limited assortment of foods, many of which are private label products, at the lowest possible prices.

ALDI joins a growing number of grocery stores in Slavic Village. Two locally owned stores, Dave’s Market at 7422 Harvard Avenue and Slavic Village Bi-Rite at 6405 Fleet Avenue, have been fixtures in the neighborhood for years. Save-A-Lot has a store located at 6501 Harvard Avenue in the Silverman’s Plaza and has recently opened a second store at 5841 Broadway.
